"Finding out where you stand"
 |
Dear Andrea:
I was hired by my company over five years ago as a sales
consultant with the promise of management which has never
come to pass. I am one of our top three sales people. Our
company president and CEO came to our location to discuss
future management opportunities with me and another consultant.
For two days I spent several hours of my personal time
waiting for the meeting to take place; it never happened.
Is it best for me to seek employment elsewhere or should
I continue to pursue advancement with a company that would
treat its top sellers in this rude and inconsiderate manner?
I'm in my 50's and am running out of steam.
--Ticked Off
Dear Ticked Off:
If you had a meeting planned that the president and CEO
didn't show for, find out what happened. I wouldn't complain,
but I'd tell the president you were looking forward to
the chance to talk and how disappointed you are the meeting
didn't take place. Underscore your interest in a management
position and ask him or her if they see that happening.
You'll know in five minutes what the score is. If it doesn't
look promising, then you need to decide if you want to
stay or fulfill your goal elsewhere.
